CIC asks Sports Ministry to furnish report on IOA Secy arrest at CWG-2014 and submit within 21 days
Dehradun: The Central Information Commission has asked the Sports Ministry to furnish report on the arrest of Indian Olympic Association Secretary Rajeev Mehta, at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and submit it to the commission within three weeks. In its 8 October 2018 decision the CIC has asked the sports ministry to submit a comprehensive report on the arrest of IOA secretary Rajeev Mehta within 21 days.
The ghost of CWG games is likely to haunt Rajeev Mehta as he was arrested by the Scotland Police during the games. Later he was released and most allege that Indian government used the diplomatic channel to get the sports official free. When Dehradun based Raju Gusian filed a RTI with Consulate General of Edinburgh, he informed that proving information of the arrest will affect India’s relationship with foreign state. But, in the RTI reply the Consulate General disclosed that a copy of the report on the arrest was send to Ministry of Sports (Government of India). The applicant was asking a copy of the report from the Sports Ministry. After he was denied, he approached the Central Information Commission.
Many theories are in circulation about Mehta’s arrest. Some claimed he was driving without license, while other say drink and driving. Many claim it a hit and run case and other misbehaving with Scotland Police. The report by Sports Ministry will present actual reason behind the arrest.
