CM of UttarPradesh Yogi Adityanath has called for a high level meeting on an emergency basis after the incident which saw some 30 infants losing their lives in Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College’s hospital due to alleged disruption in the supply of liquid oxygen.
After the reports have surfaced, it is rumoured that two more lives have been lost due to this. Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh and Minister for Medical Education Ashutosh Tandon are expected to visit the hospital after meeting the CM.
The shortage of oxygen allegedly led to encephalitis, which is a sudden onset inflammation of the brain, following which the children died. The locals have complained that though the hospital is suppose to provide free medicine and treatment, nothing has been done for free till date while the parents have alleged that the hospital has not given proper treatment to those who were in danger. This incident seems to be a dampener for the incumbent CM who has called for strict actions on Govt employees who would not put in their heart and soul into their jobs.
The lives were lost in a span of just 48 hours. Speaking about this incident, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi said that the incident was not a tragedy but a clear case of massacre. He tweeted from his official handle on twitter where he took a dig on the UP government saying “Is this what 70 years of freedom means for our children?”
