An explosion that rocked Colombia kills 3 and leaves several injured as per the latest from the authorities.
The victims includes a French National who was in Bogota to do social work at a school.
President Juan Manuel Santos condemned the attack on Twitter and expressed his solidarity with the victims.
The president orders inquiry into incident in commercial center in Bogota where security has improved over the past decade. At one time, all bags were checked at the entrance to shopping centers, but that has been vastly scaled back in recent years.
The blast went off in a toilet in a busy shopping center in Colombia’s capital, Bogota.
The commercial center was packed with people buying gifts in advance of Father’s Day celebrations on Sunday.
Streets surrounding the shopping center were closed and buildings evacuated by police as ambulances raced to the scene and security officials tried to establish who was responsible for the blast.
The government signed a peace accord last year with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country’s largest guerrilla group, raised confidence that bomb attacks might cease.
The President has ordered an inquiry the incident.
