After first dismissing reports as rumors, the Congress did a U-turn today and admitted that Rahul Gandhi had in fact met Chinese and Bhutanese envoys. It may be recalled that earlier Congress had denied that Rahul Gandhi had met Chinese ambassador Luo Zhaohui. Speaking about the controversy, Congress party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Envoys met Rahul Gandhi, not only Chinese envoy but also Bhutanese envoy and ex-NSA Shiv Shankar Menon.” Surjewala also said that the meetings were just a courtesy call and it is normal for various envoys and ambassadors to meet the Congress President and the Vice-President.
Now, that the Congress had to take a U-turn, it is trying to hide its mistakes by accusing the BJP government for not taking up the Sikkim issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit in Germany. Congress social media head Ramya uploaded a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, and wrote, “While Chinese incursions were happening, this meeting took place and the Weak PM didn’t deem it necessary to speak about the issue.” However, it’s quite obvious that Congress is covering up its mistakes by making unnecessary allegations at the ruling party.
