After several rounds of tough negotiations and bargaining, the final blueprint of Congress-SP alliance has been finalized. As per the new agreement between the two parties, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has decided to give 105 seats to the Congress Party. Samajwadi Party (SP) will contest from 298 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly.
The Congress party was involved in some hard bargains, and had made clear its intentions that it may go alone in the UP Polls and name Sheila Dikshit as the chief ministerial candidate. However, Akhilesh’s tough stand has forced Congress to tone down its demands, thereby paving the way for Congress-SP alliance.
Sources have revealed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has played a key role in resolving the deadlock between the two parties. Priyanka had a telephonic conversation this morning with Akhilesh Yadav, post which Akhilesh agreed to give 105 seats to Congress. Sonia Gandhi has also helped to sort out the tussle. Now Congress and SP will work as a team in UP polls, something that will change the political dynamics in the state and pose a challenge to other parties, especially BJP. The polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in two phases, starting February 11.
