Aiming to cash in on the recent farmer protests in various states such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, the Congress will be launching a “haq mango abhiyan” (Demand Your Rights) yatra in Uttar Pradesh. The yatra will begin tomorrow from Aligarh and it will cover all the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Experts said that the Congress party is desperate to regain some lost ground, after its recent failures in elections in various states, excluding only Punjab. The Congress yatra in UP will seek to highlight issues related to farmers and unemployment. The Congress party has come up with some interesting slogans in an attempt to get peoples’ attention.
One slogan goes like, “na karzmafi, na rozgar ka mauka, prachand bahumat, phir bhi prachand dhokha”. Loosely translated, it means that neither loans have been waived, not there are any employment opportunities; and all this even when BJP got massive majority in Uttar Pradesh. However, this slogan is itself a lie since the UP government has already announced a loan waiver for farmers. The rally will be led by state Congress chief Raj Babbar. Other Congress leaders are also expected to be a part of the rally. Sources said that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi may also join the rally at a later stage since he is now gone abroad to enjoy his summer vacations with his grandmother.
