The Congress party today welcomed the Supreme Court’s direction on cow vigilantism. The Supreme Court directed all state government today to appoint nodal officers who could look into cases involving cow vigilantism. The Congress said that it is hopeful that the current government would be able to implement the court’s directions and put an end to the menace of cow vigilantisms. It may be recalled that various cases of cow vigilantism have been reported over the years and many people have been assaulted and some have even lost their lives. The communication department head of Congress party Randeep Surjewala said that the direction provided by Supreme Court will help check violence in the name of cow protection. The direction will act as a deterrent for people who take law in their own hands in the name of cow protection.
The Supreme Court today directed all state governments to appoint a nodal officer in each district to look into cases of cow vigilantism. The court said that such nodal officer should be a senior police officer. The nodal officer can investigate cases of cow vigilantism and they can also take lawful action in case any laws related to cows are broken. The court has also directed the chief secretaries of all state governments to prepare and submit their status report. The status report should have detailed information about action taken to prevent cases of cow vigilantism.
