Cricket, which is the most famous game in Asian sub continent may very well find its way to be ncluded in the Commonwealth Games, mostly in 2022.
The last time, it was included was in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur where India failed to reach the semis. For 2022, UK Government has invited Birmingham to bid for hosting since Durban which had won earlier withdrew citing financial constraints.
Women’s cricket was already included in the Durban schedule. However Neil Snowball, the Chief Executive of Warwickshire & a member of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games bid company, has confirmed the intention to include men’s cricket also subject to the agreement of the ECB and ICC.
Unlike 50 overs that was played lastly, this time, the format would be T20.
The games are expected to be staged at Edgbaston and Worcestershire. Liverpool has confirmed the interest along with cities in Canada, Malaysia and Australia which are all expected to apply.
