The two states of Punjab and Haryana are nearing a compete lock down, as the time approaches for the court’s verdict in the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, a spiritual leader. Thousands of supporters of the spiritual leader are pouring in from all across India to witness the court hearing. The verdict will be announced by a CBI court in Panchkula, which is where all the followers of the spiritual leader are heading. The state authorities of both Punjab and Haryana are working overtime to ensure law and order before, during the after the court’s verdict. Thousands of security forces have been deployed to take care of any unwanted developments. The sea of supporters of the spiritual leader is expected to be huge, running into lakhs, so the authorities are not taking any chances.
The case against the spiritual leader dates back to around 15 years, when it was alleged that he had raped two of his women followers. The spiritual leader is known as the “Guru of Bling” by his followers, and it is possible that he may be guilty like other god men in India have been in the past. Just like the spiritual leader, his followers are also of boisterous nature and have displayed little care about public needs. Already, the authorities are sensing trouble, and they have started preparations to convert an entire cricket stadium in Chandigarh into a temporary jail. The temporary jail will be used to house followers who break rules. The authorities are also considering the possibility to call the army for added security.
