The D-Mart Stores which was listed for the first time on Tuesday has seen the value of the company pegged little over USD 6 Billion. The promoter of the group Mr Radhakishan Damani never wanted to list his company. With 82% shares held in the group by his family, Mr Damani is now worth a cool USD5 billion (Little over Rupees 33,000 Crores) making him richer than Anil Ambani, Ajay Piramal, Rahul Baaja and Anil Agarwal.
He is referred as Mr White & White for his White Attire and also as The Silent Operator for his reclusive nature. D-Mart is second in the organised retail store with 10 % trailing Future Group which leads the pack with 13% share in the market.
The outlets are located mostly in suburbs and non-metros and sells foods and non-foods apart from apparel and general merchandise. The first store was opened in Mumbai in 2002 and it presently has 118 stores in 45 cities.
