Jeevan Neduncheziyan inspires Dazzling Deuces to 27-17 win against Sharp Smashers and a place in the final
Pune, December 2: Ankita Raina was back to her winning ways after a minor blip on Monday and Jeevan Neduncheziyan took the load of responsibility in leading Dazzling Deuces to an impressive 27-17 win over Sharp Smashers and a place in the 3rd Amanora Premier Tennis League final against Baseline Bombers.
Stakes were high on Tuesday at the Deccan Gymkhana courts with the already qualified Baseline Bombers playing Vibrant Volleyers, and Dazzling Deuces up against winless Sharp Smashers.
Dazzling Deuces had a simple equation—they had two wins in their pocket and needed to win against Sanam Singh-led Sharp Smashers. On the other court, Vibrant Volleyers, with just win needed to win and hope Dazzling Deuces lose against Smashers.
With Baseline Bombers not exerting much given that they had qualified for the final, it became easier for the Volleyers to take lead and then eventually win the tie 25-22.
Natasha Palha and Chandril Sood won their women’s and men’s singles matches respectively before Saketh Myneni defeated Ramkumar Ramanathan in tie-break 9-7.
VM Ranjeet and Arantxa Andrady then overpowered Baseline Bombers’ mixed doubles pair of Kedar Shah and Prarthana Thombare 6-2.
Volleyers lost the men’s doubles match, but won the tie, but it came little too late.
Jeevan wins for Deuces
On the side courts, Dazzling Deuces produced one of their best show after being handed winnable equation ahead of the final league match.
Ankita Raina gave just the start they were looking for as she beat Sowjanya Bavisetti 6-1 and Mohit Mayur, the star of Monday’s win, defeated PC Vignesh 6-4.
Then came Jeevan Neduncheziyan who stretched Sanam Singh into tie-breker which he won 8-6. No doubt their mixed doubles pair of Christopher Marquis and Shweta Rana lost for the fourth time in the league, Jeevan returned to the court pairing with Kaza Sharma and blasted out Sanam Singh and Vijayant Malik 6-1 to storm into the final.
