High drama prevailed in the Poes Garden area on Sunday morning as Deepa Jayakumar attempted to enter the Veda Nilayam bungalow of her late aunt and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
She alleged that the ruling AIADMK (Amma) Deputy General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s supporters prevented her from entering the bungalow, where Jayalalithaa lived for nearly 40 years.
A heavy posse of police was deployed in the vicinity. Some journalists were allegedly injured in a scuffle.
Jayalalithaa had not left behind a will. After Jayalalithaa’s death, her close aide Sasikala continued to live in the bungalow.
After Sasikala was jailed, Mr. Dhinakaran had occasionally used the house to conduct meetings with ministers and senior leaders.
In the past two months the house was unoccupied but guarded by private security personnel.
