A defamation case has been filed against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury for the alleged remarks that linked the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh with the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The defamation case has been filed by a Mumbai-based lawyer who is also an RSS member. The lawyer Dhrutiman Joshi has filed the defamation case in the kurla magistrate’s court. In the defamation complaint, Joshi had pointed out to media reports that had mentioned the statements given by Rahul and Yechury. Both had criticized RSS and had said that it was due to the ideology practiced by RSS that the murder of Gauri Lankesh took place.
Joshi said that the opinions expressed by both political leaders have dented the image of RSS in the public. He said that both of them have tarnished RSS’s image without providing any valid proof. He said that he too was a member of the RSS and due to the statements made by Rahul and Yechury, he felt humiliated in front of people. He said that it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of RSS. In his complaint, Joshi has also mentioned the names of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the CPI(M). The defamation case is likely to come up for hearing on October 22. It may be recalled that Rahul Gandhi is already facing a defamation case filed against him in a court at Bhiwandi in Thane district.
