Honeypreet Insan, who is claimed to be the adopted daughter of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was not provided any leniency by the Delhi High Court. Honeypreet had filed a bail application citing threat to her life and other reasons as well. However, the same has been rejected today by the Delhi High Court. Honeypreet is facing sedition charges and she has also been accused of inciting violence when Gurmeet was convicted of rape and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Responding to the bail application, the court said that Honeypreet has purposefully evaded arrest, which is why, she will not be allowed any discretionary relief. The court also observed that the bail application was filed merely to delay the proceedings in Haryana.
The court also questioned Honeypreet’s counsel about the Delhi address given in the bail application. The court asked the counsel to provide documentary proof that Honeypreet owns any property in Delhi. The court said that the easiest thing to do for Honeypreet would be to surrender. The court said that it can exercise its territorial jurisdiction only when Honeypreet surrenders before the Delhi court. The prosecution counsel representing Delhi and Haryana Police said that Honeypreet’s bail application was just forum shopping, which is a way to elude arrest and buy time. The court said that Honeypreet can apply for bail at Punjab and Haryana High Court also if she wants.
