The dismal performance of AAP and Congress in the recently held Delhi MCD election was quite a show as 92 Congress candidates and 40 AAP candidates lost their security deposits.
Delhi State Election Commissioner S K Srivastava said that around 1,790 of the 2,516 candidates lost their security deposit. In the 2012 MCD polls, 1,782 out of the 2,423 candidates lost their deposit.
The candidates lose their security deposit when they fail to get a minimum of 1/6th of the total number of valid votes.
He also said that 192 of the BSP and 94 of the JD(U), 55 of the 56 Shiv Sena candidates lost their security deposits.
Five of the BJP candidates also lost their security deposit. In 2012, 203 candidates of the BSP, 18 of the BJP, and 26 of the Congress, lost their security deposits.
The BJP has won 181 out of 270 MCD wards delhi due to the significant popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
