Delta airlines paid USD 11,000 to Laura Begley Bloom whose family of three was to travel from Florida to New York. This happened because of the bad weather where thousands of flights were cancelled and many of the passengers were left stranded.
Begley Bloom, her husband Jonathan and their four-year-old daughter Lucy voluntarily gave up their seats on an overbooked flight to Fort Lauderdale. Delta shelled out over $3,000 in compensation and also refunded the cost of the original tickets, totalling USD11,000.
Airlines are required by law to compensate passengers who give up seats, whether involuntary or voluntary, but only if the delay doesn’t surpass an hour and the company puts the customer on another flight.
