Dera search continues; currency, data and other items seized

The court-ordered search of Dera Sacha Sauda 700-acre premises began today at 8 AM, wherein officials recovered various items such as cash, computers, unregistered luxury car, and a broadcast van. One of the most important find was the parallel currency being used by Dera management and its followers. The currency was printed by Dera it seems and was being used among members of the organization. It may be recalled that printing any form of currency is banned in the country. Only the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been given the rights to print currency. However, it appears that Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who has been convicted of rape charges, wanted to create his own kingdom where he can print and use his own currency. Unlabeled medicine has also been recovered by officials. Reports show that 5 people including 2 minors have also been found in the cave built inside Dera. Some endangered animals have also been recovered.

The 700-acre Dera headquarters is being searched by police and forensic officials. Security has been increased in the area with commandoes, dog squads and 4,000 paramilitary soldiers. Mobile services in the area have also been shut down. All the search and sanitization operations are being video recorded and these will be submitted as proof against Dera, its members and Dera chief.
