Different types of wine

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes, which consist the alcohol content from 5%-21 %( depend on Varity).

Wine can be divided in hundreds of types considering country, region, year, grape variety and process but fundamentally there are five types:-

  • Red Wine  A still wine made with black grapes, France, Italy and Spain are the top wine producing countries respectively, major wine consumed by USA, France and Italy respectively.

Famous Grape Variety: – Merlot, Pinot noir and Grenache

Famous and one of the most expensive red wine: Chateau Margaux 1787 – $500000(3.5 CR) approx…

Famous Indian Red Wine and Cost: – Grover La reserve , Fratelli Wine Sette and Reveilo Wine – Cabernet sauvignon Reserve at INR 1700 , 1650 and 1400 respectively/

Served and store at room temperature (around 18-20degree) in low stem broader bowl glass ,alcohol content is around 12-15 %.

  •  White Wine: – A still wine made with green grapes, Italy, Spain and France are the top wine producing countries respectively, Though Major white wine consumed by Australia and New Zealand.

Famous Grape Variety:  Chardonnayand Sauvignon

Famous and one of the most expensive white wine: – Chateau d’Yquem 1811 –$1117000 (80 lac) approx.

Famous Indian White Wine and Cost: – Fratelli Sangiovese Bianco and Krsma Chardonnay at …  INR 1000 and INR 791 per bottle.

Served and store at cold, ideal temperature is 5-7 degree in a long stem straight glass.

  • Rose Wine:- A still wine from black grapes, those skin gets removed before the final process. Rose wine is largely produced by France and Spain.

Famous Grape Variety: Grenache, Sangiovese

Famous and one of the most expensive Rosewine: – Garrus  Chateau D’esclans 85 $( INR   5500).

Famous Indian Rose Wine and cost: – Sula Zinfandel Rose and Grover art collection shiraz at INR 610 and INR 615 per 750 ml.

Served and store at cold, ideal temperature is 5-7 degree in a long stem straight glass.

  • Sparkling Wine:-A which has sufficient level of co2 to make fizz is called sparkling wine, example champagne.

All champagne are sparkling wine but all sparkling wine can’t be champagne, as we called champagne to a sparkling wine which is get produced in champagne region in France.

Famous Grape Variety: – Dornfelder, Drunkelfelder.

Famous and one of the most expensive Sparkling Wine:- Gout de Diamants, Taste of Diamonds- $ 2.07 million( INR 17.35 Cr).

Famous Indian Sparkling wine:-Chandon Brut , York Sparkling cuvee brut and Sula Brut at INR 1200, 900 and INR 945 resp.

Served cold in Champagne flute at temperature of 3-5 degree.

  • Fortified Wine:  The wines which gets addition of spirits ( specially brandy) called as Fortified wine. They are dry to sweet in taste and can be consumed after meal with desserts.

Famous Fortified Wines: – Madeira ( Portugal), Port( Portugal) , Sherry( Spain)

Famous Grape Variety:- Cataratto ,Verdelho( there are many more varieties)

Famous and one of the most expensive – A Jeroboam (5 liters) Chateau Mouton-Rothschild  1945 at $ 114614 ( INR 74 lac) approx.

Indian Fortified wine:- Sula Port Wine 1000, Sidus Premium Port wine may come around INR  250- 1000 per bottle

Can be served at regular temperature as 10-18 Degree in red wine glass.
