Congress Party has announced that it has removed is senior leader Digvijay Singh as party’s general secretary in-charge for Karnataka and Goa since the polls are due soon. The announcement was made after the fiasco in formation of the Government in the coastal state.
The President of Congress, Sonia Gandhi has now appointed KC Venugopal along with 4 secretaries as party’s general-secretary in-charge for Karnataka and A Chella Kumar for Goa.
Singh failed to form the Government in Goa despite winning 17 of the 40 seats but the BJP has retained it though it came second winning only 13 seats. This evoked criticism from within the party across India which is now reflected in his demotion. Singh has complained that BJP has wooed independent members to join them to form the party in Goa which did not go well with the party high command as it considered that Singh did not exhibit his fullest potential in pushing the party to form the government.
“Money power has won over people’s power. I apologise to the people of Goa as we couldn’t muster the support to form the government,” Singh had tweeted.
A Chella Kumar is AICC Secretary and has led the Youth Wing of Congress in Tamilnadu and was also a Member of Legislative Assembly.
