In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for personnel, public grievances and pensions Jitendra Singh said that direct recruitment in central government jobs has come down by 89 percent in 2015, as compared to 2013. The data he presented shows that direct recruitment in central government jobs was 1,51,841 in 2013, 1,26,261 in 2014 and 15,877 in 2015. The minister said the decline is even higher at 90% in the direct recruitment of reserved category candidates. In this case too, the decline is measured by comparing 2013 and 2015 data.
The minister also responded to another query and revealed that around 1,832 appointments in government departments were made through the use of fake caste certificates. The minister said that the majority of these appointments, somewhere around 1,200, were in financial institutions such as insurance firms and public sector banks. The minister also informed that in 2010, the central government had carried out an exercise to identify all such appointments that were made using fake Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) caste certificates.
