Do you know which Country owns the World’s biggest submarine? Many of us would jump into a conclusion to say it is either US or UK or China but the answer is Russia.
The name of the submarine is Dmitry Donskoy.
Now let us look at its features:
- The submerged weight of this giant is 48,000 tonnes.
- It is a nuclear powered submarine fitted with ballistic missiles.
- Commissioned in 1981.
- One of the six submarines in its class.
Why is this in news?
After the recent attacks in Syria by USA with its Tomahawk missiles, Russia which is a close ally of Syria is believed to have commissioned the submarine to sail n the Mediterranean in an attempt to send strong signals to the US. Aboard the sub are 20 Bulava (NATO-code SS-N-30) intercontinental ballistic missiles with an estimated up to 200 nuclear warheads. Each missile, with a reported range of 10,000km, carries 6-10 MIRV nuclear warheads.
While US also has another trouble brewing in North Korea with China backing it, this seems to be another major hurdle which it needs to address it effectively but with utmost care.
