The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has come out in support of eradicating the practice of triple talaq in India. The organization said that anyone who practices triple talaq should be ostracized from the society. It also urged parents to stop marrying their daughters in families that practice triple talaq. Speaking about the ills of triple talaq, Atiya Siddiqa, General Secretary of the women’s wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said, “Triple talaq is a social ill that needs to be eradicated from India. This campaign will be run in cities and towns where triple talaq is rampant.” Atiya also said that there is an urgent need to spread awareness among both men and women, which is why the organization has requested imams to let people know about triple talaq when they are giving their lectures before Friday namaz.
The organization is also in the process of developing an app, which will help people to interpret Islamic teachings in the right way. The organization also intends to provide monetary assistance to women facing adversities due to triple talaq. The organization will be spreading awareness in various areas of Uttar Pradesh by utilizing available platforms such as ‘Jamaat Counseling Center’, Darul Qaza and Sharia Panchayats.
