Chinese authorities have busted an underground operation where in they have arrested not less than a dozen of employees of direct Apple suppliers and also from agencies where the work is outsourced too. It is believed that millions of user data was compromised where it was sold anywhere between USD 1.47 to USD 11.78 which included name, phone numbers, Apple id’s etc., and at the present moment, it is not clear whether it includes only the data of Chinese users or users from other countries too.
The Chinese authorities from Southern Zhejiang province took longer than expected as they had to build a solid case to arrest the scammers. The arrests were made across Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Fujian provinces too.
It is believed that the scammers made more than USD7 Million by selling the user’s data. China is known for selling data at throw away prices and Apple which uses iCloud is a safe place where hacking cannot be done from outside. The scammers may now be targeting the users in order to extort money from the details being compromised.
Apple is yet to comment on the issue.
