England Women’s team has pulled off a sensational win in what could be the nail biting finish to seal their berth for the finals in the World Cup. South Africa batted first and even before the score could reach 50, they lost two early wickets of Lee and Chetty.
The partnership with Wolvaardt and du Preez was solid and English bowlers could split them only when the score reached 125 with Wolvaardt departing at 66. Kapp and Tyron or out for 1 run each whereas Niekerk scored 27 and Luus 21. du Preez remained not out till the end with 76. The score in end for South Africa was 218-6.
Facing an easy total, England started to bat. They too lost two wickets when the score reached 61 with Winfield and Beaumont scoring 20 and 15 each. Then there was a partnership with Taylor and Knight which lasted until the score reached 139 when Taylor was run out for 54 and shortly Knight also was dismissed for 30. Then couple of wickets fell in quick succession even before the score reached 173 giving hopes for South Africa which was dashed by Wilson and Gunn. While Wilson was dismissed for 30, Gunn stood at the crease till the end with an unbeaten 27 that saw England go past the score comfortably in 49.4 overs. Khaka and Luus secured 2 wickets each for South Africa.
They will now face the winner between Australia and India in the finals in Lords on Sunday.
