England scores an impressive 348/3 on Day 1

The test match between England and West Indies had begun yesterday and it was for the first time, a day and night test match has been held between two test playing nation. What is even more special is the adoption of Pink Coloured ball for the very first time as it would not only be lighter but would also give a clearer vision to the batsman to play them in the day light.

At the end of Day 1, England seems to be in total control with a score of 348/3. Initially couple of wickets fell for England in quick succession where Stoneman and Westley scored 8 runs each. The scores of England was wavering around 39/2 by then. The 4th wicket partnership between Root and Cook took them to an unassailable position. The duo added a mammoth 248 runs quickly when Root got out for 136. He had by then scored 22 boundaries. The score by then was 287 was 3. After that no wicket fell for England. Roach took 2 wickets for West Indies while another wicket was claimed by Cummins.

Malan who joined Cook after the exit of Root ensured no further wickets fell till the end of the day. The duo added an unbeaten 61 runs. Malan was not out at 28 with 4 boundaries and Cook was at 153 with 23 boundaries at the time of the close of Day 1. It would become a tough task for WestIndies unless they take some early wickets on Day 2 to control England thereby not allowing them to post a huge first innings score.
