She hopped and swayed like a silly girl
Who had just heard the school bell toll.
With aplomb, did she take that swirl?
In my mind I coxed and cursed her to fall
Onto the ground as she flit aloft
The dew drops on the glass blades.
My heart sank, and yet grew soft
For those dried leaves under the shades
Of a tall tree that relinquished them
In hope of newer and greener day.
On the emerald grass she gleamed like a gem.
My mind raced for a single way,
That would make her mine forever.
Today in my moments of dolour
I can still remember the monarch flutter
And it still fills my life with colour.
