The citizens of EU have a reason to celebrate after the Union has officially announced abolishing the roaming charges within the union. The EU decision to abolish roaming charges comes in effect today and now calls, texts, and data on mobile devices cost the same regardless if you are at home or in any other country in the EU.
It is termed as a true European success story.
With this new legislation coming to effect, it means travelers can use their data allowance (up to a reasonable usage limit) in any of the 28 member-states of the Union. The new legislation means travellers can use their regular data allowance anywhere in the EU.
The other members of the European Economic Area Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein would join the group “shortly after June 15”.
Until now there were charges levied on calls, texts and data if they are used from a different EU member-state.
This will benefit the British travelers the most as the pound languishes against the euro, British travelers are now benefiting from one welcome development: the abolition of roaming charges for using their phones across Europe.
