A former Doordarshan anchor and yoga teacher was knocked down by a coconut tree that fell straight on her head while she was on a morning walk in Chembur.
Passers-by witness the incident and rush to her rescue.
Ms Nath was then taken to a hospital and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. She died of her injuries this morning.
Her husband has blamed the BMC for not permitting the tree to be cut.
Rajat Nath, Kanchan’s husband, told mid-day, “This incident happened because the BMC did not allow the society to cut the tree, despite being informed that it could fall any time.”
The local councillor Asha Marathe has written to the BMC demanding action and accused officials responsible of being negligent.
She has also demanded an inquiry against them.
