FBI director James Comey today confirmed that the agency is probing Russia’s role in 2016 US Presidential election. The investigations seek to unravel potential interference in 2016 presidential election by means of possible links and coordination involving associates of President Donald Trump and those working for Russian government. These surprising revelations were made by Comey during his opening statement at a congressional hearing that has been called to examine the alleged links between Russia and Trump’s campaign.
In his statement to the House Intelligence Committee, Comey said, “This work is very complex, and there is no way for me to give you a timetable for when it will be done.” It may be recalled that Trump had accused Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower. However, this allegation has been dismissed by the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Trump has also accused the Democrats of launching a false campaign against him by linking his presidential campaign with Russian associates. Responding to the revelations made by Comey, Trump tweeted, “The real story that Congress, the FBI and others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information. Must find leaker now!”
