The fight over the control of JD(U) intensified today, as Sharad Yadav claimed that he had the majority support in the party. Sharad Yadav, who was recently expelled from the post of the party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha, said that his faction was the real JD(U). Sharad said that his faction has the support of 14 state units of JD(U). He pointed out that Nitish Kumar, who is the party president, only has support from Bihar legislators. Sharad’s offensive is natural since he has been removed from the post of the party’s general secretary. Arun Srivastava, a close aide of Sharad Yadav said that Sharad’s faction has the support of 2 Rajya Sabha MPS and other national office bearers as well as the support of 14 state unit presidents.
Arun said that it was wrong on part of Nitish Kumar to say that JD(U) is only limited to Bihar. He said that JD(U) always had a national-level presence and the support of 14 state units is evidence to that. Arun said that Sharad Yadav is the real leader of JD(U) since Nitish had only merged his Samata Party to JD(U) and not actually created JD(U). “We will not leave the party. Nitish Kumar himself says that the party does not exist outside Bihar. Then he should form a new party for Bihar. He should not try to capture the JD(U) which always had a national presence,” Arun told
