First Floating Primary School in Loktak Lake, Manipur

Manipur, All Loktak Lake Fisherman’s Union taken an initiative with assistance People Resources Development Association to run a school at Langolsabi Leikai of Champu Khangpok village. Lokatak Lake is the major seawater lake in the India; Now Lokatak Lake has the first of its kind floating school, elementary school.


Lokatak Lake is recognized as the lifeline of Manipur and with new floating school just made it even more known Lake. The chief goal of this kind of school is to provide education to dropout students, those who became homeless due to the recent removal of phumdis. The school educates to adults as well and 25 students and two teachers will be the group from the community.

Oinam Rajen Singh, a local resident of the area said that most of us are unschooled and mostly are contingent upon on fishing as a meager source of income; we are not able to send our children to school to another area. This made us to set up a primary school here started by All Loktak Lake Fishermen’s Union in partnership with People Resources Development Association.
