In what is probably a first for the BJP, one of its own sitting MP has openly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The attack against the PM was launched by Nana Patole, MP from Gondia-Bhandara. Patole launched a scathing attack on PM Modi, saying that he does not like if someone questions him. Patole criticized PM Modi while addressing the audience at a function organized in the district. Patole said that he was only trying to discuss the problems being faced by farmers, but PM Modi got angry at him and told him to shut up. Patole claimed that he was trying to discuss various options that would benefit farmers such as raising green tax, increasing investments in agriculture, creating an OBC ministry, etc. Patole said that PM Modi did not listen to him and asked him to shut up. Patole also criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying that he has filed to resolve the issue of farmers.
Sources said that Patole is unhappy with BJP, largely because the party is hobnobbing with senior NCP leader Praful Patel, who is an arch-rival of Patole in the region. Patole was earlier with the Congress and he joined the BJP in 2014 and defeated Patel from Gondia-Bhandara constituency. The state BJP unit has not taken any action against Patole and said that any action would come from the central party leadership.
