In a statement issued today, Bangladesh police has stated that it has arrested four terrorists involved in the country’s worst terror attack at a popular cafe in Dhaka. The four terrorists arrested today belong to the banned militant outfit named Neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Bangladesh security officials said that these four people were living as tenants using fake identities. When the security officers received a tip off about their location in Jatrabari area, they formed a team of Rapid Action Battalion and raided the house they were staying in. Since, it was a surprise raid, the terrorists could not offer much resistance.
During the raid, security officials seized two pistols, 21 bullets, four sharp weapons, gun powder and bomb-making materials. The seizure of arms and ammunition indicates that these terrorists might have been planning more such strikes in the country, majorly targeting spots frequented by foreign nationals, especially Americans. Due to international pressure, Bangladesh has stepped up its fight against terrorism and has caught or killed many terrorist in recent times. The arrest of four militants today comes after the capture of another mastermind, who was arrested two weeks ago for the July 1, 2016 attack at Holey Artisan restaurant in Dhaka’s upmarket Gulshan area.
It may be recalled that the terrorist attack on the Dhaka cafe had resulted in the deaths of 22 people including 17 foreigners. There was an Indian girl also among those killed in the attack.
