Now single mothers, adopted children and sadhus can easily get an passport as the government has reduced paperwork and required documentations while applying.
The new rule was announced by MoS for external affairs Gen VK Singh (retd) after he inaugurated the Ministry’s Twitter Sewa.
The Ministry of External Affairs says, “Online passport application form requires the applicant to provide the name of father or mother or legal guardian. This would enable single parents to apply for their children. Printing of name of father or mother will not be necessary on request of the applicant.”
Singh said that Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar cards will now be accepted as proof of date of birth and digitally signed marriage certificates as proof of marriage.
PAN card, voter ID, school leaving certificate and driving licence would be accepted as proof of date of birth.
According the new norms divorced applicants will not have to mention name of their spouse in the application form either or provide a divorce decree.
While Sadhus can apply for a passport with name of their spiritual guru in place of their biological parents name.
The caution is only they should have at least one public document which includes a voter ID, PAN card, Aadhaar card etc in which name of the guru has been recorded against the column for parents’ names.
