Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) on Tuesday decided to continue its strike against their demand of Gorkhaland.
The GMCC will hold its next meet on August 1.
In the meeting it was also decided that letters will be initiated to the Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor of Sikkim Shriniwas Patil regarding the alleged atrocities of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Government.
The committee also decided to call for hunger strike when right time comes.
In the meet they also condemned last night’s Mirik violence.
Meanwhile in Darjeeling, Gorkhaland supporters staged a protest rally with body of Asish Tamang who was allegedly killed in police firing yesterday in Mirik.
Darjeeling is witnessing unrest since June 12 when the GJM announced an indefinite strike to protest against the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to make Bengali compulsory for all schools in the state.
Mamata Banerjee had urged the GJM to resolve their issues over talks at the all party meeting held in Siliguri. However, the GJM did not participate in the meeting.
The protestors are also asking for a separate Gorkhaland, a long pending demand of the people of the hills.
