The much-awaited meeting between telecom companies and the government was held today in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha and representatives from most of the leading telecom companies attended the meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives from companies such as Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Jio and Reliance Communications. During the meeting, the telecom companies shared their problems with the telecom minister and requested him to resolve their issues. Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan and other government officials were also present during the meeting.
Some of the top leaders from the telecom industry were present in the meeting including Anil Ambani of Reliance Communications, Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel and Mahendra Nahata of Reliance Jio. It may be recalled that an inter-ministerial group (IMG) has already been formed to look into the problems of the telecom industry. The government has discussed matters with MTNL and BSNL and today it held talks with private telecom players. After the meeting, Sinha assured all telecom companies that the government will soon announce corrective measures to help the telecom industry.
