Ahead of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), the central government is planning to launch 100 yoga parks across the country, which would be exclusively dedicated to the traditional practice of yoga. The IDY is celebrated on June 21 every year, and this year Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in a massive event planned in Lucknow. Just like last year, IDY will be celebrated across the globe with more than 150 countries taking part in the celebrations. Indian missions in foreign countries have been tasked with coordinating the event in respective countries. IDY will be celebrated at popular places in the world such as Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Trafalgar Square in London and the Central Park in New York among others.
Speaking about the mega event planned for IDY, Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik said, “It would be no exaggeration to say that the world has acknowledged the supremacy of India in the field of yoga. Last two years, the IDY was celebrated across the globe with active participation of more than 190 countries.” Naik also said that individuals and organizations that have done significant work for the promotion of yoga in the country and overseas will be awarded with the Prime Minister’s Award.
