Govt announces 30 Smart Cities, Thiruvanathapuram tops list

The government on Friday announced the list of 30 cities as smart cities . Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram topped the list, Chhattisgarh new capital Naya Raipur came second.

While both the capital of Jammu & Jashmir , Jammu & Stinagar made it to the list.

Raebareli , Meerut and Ghaziabad did not get selected. 

Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun this time made it to the list.

Mumbai did not participate in the competition.

These smart cities names were announced by Union Urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Though the centre expected 40 cities but announced only 30. 

Non participation of Bengal and Mumbai brought down the numbers.

Naidu said 45 cities contested out of which 30 were selected.

These cities have proposed to invest Rs.57,393 crores under smart city plans.

26 cities will be taking up school and hospital projects, 29 will be taking up redesign and redevelopment of roads which will benefit the common man.
