Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram claimed that the Goods and Services Tax Bills passed by Parliament were imperfect and no attempt was made to improve them.
He passed these comments while addressing a press conference on Tuesday. Chidambaram also pointed out that the Rajya Sabha could have improved the Bills but was denied the opportunity by the government.
Chidambaram also claimed that the Finance Bill has included non-financial and non-money matters, which is a flagrant violation of the historically accepted norms and conventions.
He said that government avoided a scrutiny of these matters by introducing the amendments in the Finance Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
He also claimed that this was an assault on the Constitution of India and hoped that courts will pronounce upon the legality of such devices.
