Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish GP on Sunday thereby reducing the gap between him and the leader Sebastian Vettel on the driver’s points to 6 points with the standings read at Vettel with 104 and Hamilton with 98.
He was elated after the victory and said “That’s how racing should be and I loved it,” adding further “This is what the sport needs to be every single race…to have that close battle with him, a four times champion, is awesome”.
Vettel finished 3.4 seconds behind Hamilton and was disappointed. Hamilton’s victory is special because for the past 10 years, there were 10 different winners and the jinx has been broken as he was the Champion in Spanish GP last year as well.
“I was eight seconds ahead and then…I don’t know how we managed to lose that,” said Vettel.
Sergio Perez who is representing Force India finished 4th and ensured that his points table kept ticking for the past 15 races successively. His team mate Esteban Ocon finished fifth and Nico Hulkenberg from Renault has finished it in sixth spot.
Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen collided with Red Bull’s 2016 winner Max Verstappen and was out of the tournament whereas World Champion Fernando Alonso was forced to enter the gravel in a tussle with Williams’s Felipe Massa.
