Nineteen soldiers of the special forces unit that carried out the brave surgical acts across the Line Of Control have been awarded the Kirti Chakra and their commanding officers have been given Yudh Sewa Medals.
Major Mohit Suri, who led a team of the special forces unit was awarded the Kirti Chakra, the second highest bravery award given during peace time. Havildar Prem Bahadur Resmi Sagar, who was a part of the Gorkha rifles was given the Kirti Chakra posthumously. Colonel Harpreet Sandhu and Colonel Kapil Yadav who were commanding officers in this mission were awarded the Yudh Sewa Medal. This medal is given to people who showed distinguished service in times of war, conflict, hostilities and may also be awarded posthumously. It is the equivalent of Vishisht Seva Medal which is awarded during peace time.
5 soldiers also got the Shaurya Chakra and 13 others got the Sena Medal. The Indian Army conducted surgical strikes across the LoC in order to retaliate the Uri attack done by terrorists.
