More than 28 passengers were killed and nine were injured after a bus rolled down into a 700-metre deep gorge at a highway near Rampur in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday morning.
The private bus was travelling from Kinnaur to Solan.
There were around 40 passengers in the vehicle when the accident took place around 9.15 am.
Rescue operations are under way.
The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital.
However, the death toll could rise as the bus rolled down around 200 metres towards the bank of Satluj river.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained and the police has registered the case.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of 15 passengers in a road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district.
“My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones in the tragic bus accident… May those injured recover quickly,” Modi tweeted.
