In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has refused to provide any relief to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case. The court has also removed the interim stay on Vibhadra’s interrogation and arrest. Soon after the court order, the CBI filed its chargesheet against the CM. The chargesheet includes the names of nine people including the 82-year old Virbhadra Singh. The charges have been filed under section 109 (abetment) of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The chargesheet also includes the name of LIC agent Anand Chauhan who is currently being held in judicial custody. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Chauhan on July 9 last year. His arrest was in a different case, which was linked to the case filed against Virbhadra Singh. It may be recalled that earlier, as per the October 1, 2015 order of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the CBI was restrained from taking any action against the CM without the court’s permission.
