Himachal Pradesh districts with higher sex ratio reported fewer sexual assault cases: Study

According to the study of Regional Forensic Science Laboratory done at regions in Himachal Pradesh, it was found that in which region the sex ratio is more, the sexual assault cases are less against women.

The study was built on the movements of the sexual assault cases against women acknowledged in the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory from 2011 and 2015 for five regions of Himachal Pradesh.

The study shows that in the five regions of the central zone of Himachal Pradesh which are Mandi, Bilaspur, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, and Hamirpur wherein the number of sexual attack cases was higher.

Regional Forensic Science Laboratory’s Deputy Director said from 400 cases, 42.5 percent were from Mandi district, and from Kullu, 28.6 per cent. Sexual attack cases each year per lakh populace were seen highest in Kullu district.

According to the study, the highest connection was experienced with the sex ratio in every region. It was observed that sexual attack cases incline to be lesser in the districts where the sex ratio was advanced.

He also said that numerical model built on these movements was fruitful in calculating the number of sexual attack cases in total regions of the state.
