Indian Air Force’s Sukhoi-30 jet goes missing near Tezpur in Asssam which is bordering China yesterday. The plight of the two pilots aboard the jet is not known yet.
The flight took off from Salonibari in Assam at 10:30AM and lost the radio contact 60km north of Tezpur. The search which was ordered had to be called off due to poor weather and will be continued today.
The Sukhoi-30 were being inducted into IAF from 1990. It is made in Russia with twin engine and is fit for air-to-air and air-to-surface mission which is plagued by poor serviceability apart from engine failures.
Sonitpur district deputy commissioner Manoj Kumar Deka was alerted about the missing jet who in turn has informed all the neighbouring district administrations.
Though some reports held the Sukhoi could have gone down near the West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh, IAF could not trace the jet. India had bought 240 Sukhois from Russia and has lost 7 already. The deal was pegged at USD12 Billion wth bulk of them being produced in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd(HAL).
