In a welcome development, the government has announced that CISCE students can now use the DigiLocker facility to store and share their documents and certificates. It may be recalled that the DigiLocker facility is available to all Indian citizens who can use it to store their documents in digital format. DigiLocker is basically a government owned public cloud storage and it can be used to store various types of documents such as driving license, vehicle registration papers, educational certificates, Aadhaar card, etc. DigiLocker makes storing and sharing of documents a hassle-free affair and reduces costs and environment impact associated with printing such documents.
This is the first time that the DigiLocker facility is being made available to students. The facility will be available to students of Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) class 10 and Indian School Certificate (ISC) class 12. Their accounts will be linked to their respective Aadhaar cards, and they can share the stored documents with other stakeholders as and when needed. The certificates that these students will get from CISCE will be digitally signed and added to their DigiLocker account. The service is free, user-friendly and completely secure.
