Good news for IIT aspirant women student. As the IITs will have a quota for its women students. Yesterday, the IIT Council discussed the likelihood of increasing the figure of women students from the existing annual 8-9% to 20% in next 3 years.
Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister said that it is decided to offer more admission to girls aspirants. As per the sources, additional seats are decided course wise so that it will enable opportunity for more girls to join the IITs.
As per the change, if there are 100 seats are offered for a particular course, there would be an extra couple of seats will be added in the course which means instead of 100 seats there will be 104 seats, it is just an example calculation.
Chairman of IIT Council’s standing committee said that in other campuses when girls are in the ratio of 40 to 50 percent, but, in IIT’s there are very low girls candidates. Girls candidates who have cleared JEE advanced are capable of joining the IITs and they should join the institute.
Other than promoting girls candidate to join the IITs, the IIT Council also talked about methods to entice more foreign students to take admission in IITs. The discussion was also about increasing fees for postgraduate courses. It is said that IIT spends some 1.24 lakh per student in the year and the yearly fee is only 20,000.This fee hike decision is not yet finalized.
