Newspatrolling: China has often referred to Pakistan as an “all-weather ally”, but in a rare instance, things seem to have changed after the killing of two Chinese nationals by ISIS terrorists. China displayed its unhappiness when Chinese President Xi Jinping avoided a customary meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kazakh capital Astana. It was something that was for the entire world to see and it was quite an embarrassment for Pakistan. The snub was also evident in Chinese state-run media that highlighted Xi’s meetings with Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but there was no mention of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Xi’s unprecedented snub is quite natural since China is shocked and extremely disappointed with the killing of two Chinese nationals. The two were kidnapped last month from Quetta in Balochistan and a couple of days back the terrorist organization ISIS said that it has killed the two Chinese nationals. Earlier, it was being suspected that the Baloch terrorists were involved in the killing of Chinese nationals, but now it has been confirmed that the execution was done by ISIS.
