China has barred Muslim names for newborn babies in Xinjiang region. As per the move children with names like Saddam or Midina are banned and will not get a residence permit which is mandatory for getting medical and educational services.
Human Rights Watch said that this new rule is in place to restrict religious freedom in the name of disputing spiritual fanaticism.
Government Xinjiang said that the names were banned because of their religious implication and this can overstate religious enthusiasm also in Xinjiang, keeping abnormal beards is banned.
As per HRW, Fierce events and cultural tensions are rising in Xinjiang and government could not achieve solutions for these situations.
