In a massive operation, conducted across six cities and more than 15 locations in Uttar Pradesh, the Income Tax Department has targeted some of the top bureaucrats in the state on suspicion of amassing illegal income. The raids were conducted at the premises of some of the top bureaucrats in the state. Sources said that some of the top bureaucrats whose premises were raided include Meerut range Road Transport Officer (RTO) Mamta Sharma, former Baghpat district Magistrate and additional CEO Greater Noida.
Investigators from the Income Tax Department are conducting raids in cities such as Ghaziabad, Noida, and Lucknow among others. One of the raids was conducted at offices of former Lucknow District Magistrate (DM) Satyendra Singh. The office of former Ghaziabad District Magistrate Vimal Sharma was also raided. It may be recalled that Vimal Sharma is currently serving as the additional CEO of Noida Authority. The latest raids come after last month’s raids, wherein Income Tax Department had unearthed undisclosed income worth more than Rs 10 crore. This belonged to top officers in the state, it was alleged. The raids last month were conducted at 20 locations.
